Exodus #86: The Tabernacle of God, from Exodus 36:8-38
Thesis: The tabernacle in the wilderness is the beginning of the glorious good news of God’s saving presence in the midst of a sinful people.
- By God’s grace a tabernacle was built that God might dwell in the midst of sinful people. (36:8-38)
- By God’s grace a body was created that God might dwell in the midst of sinful people. (John 1:1-4, 14)
- By God’s grace a church is being built that God might dwell in the midst of sinful people. (Ephesians 3:16-17; 2:19-22)
Conclusion:
The Church is not a building but a people. The church is the dwelling place of God. …God lives in his church by his Spirit.
These stories we read in the pages of the Old Testament are not just the stories of ancient peoples, they are our story. The story of how God in mercy and grace provided the way for his saving presence to dwell in the midst of a sinful people.
